In the premier race of the US Offshore 1997 Pro Tour, the new Pennzoil / Boardwalk Racing cat showed what she's made of and scored a come from behind victory last Saturday at the COMPAQ Offshore Challenge in Laconia, New Hampshire.
Under threating skies but mostly calm conditions the 32' Skater performed flawlessly showing off her new graphics and rigging that transformed the former Harmsco Hurricane into the Pennzoil Offshore Racer. (new pix as soon as available)
With a last minute driver change that put the winner of the A Stock race just minuits earlier, Rob Winoski (A-1 Bronx Phantom) behind the wheel, the combo of Nicky Cutro on the sticks, and Rob proved unbeatable. With a late start and early problems in the turns, they had their work cut out for them but by the third lap things came together. By the fifth lap they ate up all the water to the then first place boat P27 Defender and close and exciting racing followed. By the seventh lap we were in front by 3 lengths and finished with power to spare. Average speed for 10 laps arround the 9 mile course topped 88 MPH. Click here for complete race results.
Rob has only been racing for 2 years but has already racked up the 1996 US Offshore A-Stock Championship and 1996 Rookie Of The Year. Click here for Bronx Phantom Team Profile
