In markedly different conditions then Lake Winnipesaukee two weeks ago, June 14th's race on Chicago's Lake Michigan proved to be more challenging to the new Pennzoil race cat. Early laps were close with Nicky in the lead several times. Quoted Nicky..."6 to 8 footers slowed us down out there but we were making it all up when we came in past the cut". As the race progressed, one engine went down on power and a 2nd place finish behind the P-27 Defender boat was the best that could be done. Our new driver, Rich Middleton of Sarasota FL, got a great ride and held her steady. As in Winnipesaukee, the P-2 Race America boat continued to have problems early on and finished third.
This puts the points standings for the Pro-Stock National Title in a tie with us and Defender going into the next race at Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ on July 15-16. And if that isn't enough to get you going... "winning this race as we have for the last 2 years will crank everyone up a notch against us, so we're gonna be ready", quipped Nicky.
